DBSC is Moving Forward

Updated: Jun 24

Calista and Dean Scott

As of July 1st , the United Way of Skagit County will become the new home of the Diaper Bank of Skagit County. Calista and Dean Scott, Founder and Executive Director, are retiring and succession of the Diaper Bank to United Way will assure the continuation of a valuable community resource.

DBSC started as an awareness project in 2016. Calista, a retired maternity nurse, had observed mothers looking for diapers while she was volunteering at a food bank in her community. She could not get this off her mind.

In 2017 Community Action of Skagit County provided fiscal sponsorship of the project, and in 2018 DBSC became a certified member of the National Diaper Bank Network and a 501(c)3 Non-profit Corporation. Since then, the DBSC has grown steadily from delivering 25,000 diaper the first year to currently providing 50 diapers per month to over 500 children. (25,000 diapers/month). The Diaper Bank’s growth has only been possible because of community support – we thank you so much.

A diaper is a little thing but can make a big difference to a child and family in need. Diapers are a basic need which parents tell us, when receiving them, makes the whole family feel happier and healthier.
